MASS, «YELLOW», THE GUTTER PRESS: TO THE QUESTION OF DELIMITATION

This article is an attempt to differentiate such concepts as mass press, «yellow press», gutter
press. The author especially stresses general principals to differentiate these three types of
periodicals and to oversee how this differentiation is used in modern journalistic practice.

The article deals with the typology of borrowings from Indian languages in English discourse
from the standpoint of their conceptual content; the significance of further research in
this field is evaluated with consideration of the globalization of conceptual areas and indianization
of Modern English.

ETHNOGRAPHIC NOMINATIONS AS A KIND OF DIALECT NAMES
The article dwells on ethnographic nominations in the dialects of Modern English. It is stated,
that ethnographic nominations render the level of the development of cognitive activities and
the peculiarities of world view, fulfilling the function of a linguistic sign. The analysis of this layer
of vocabulary in British dialects allowed to state, that ethnographic names can be (1) direct
names of objects of material and spiritual culture; (2) metaphoric names and (3) names connected
with ritualized forms of information encoding.

The article deals with etymology of the main German gods Odin and Freja, the lexicosemantic
analysis of these names is presented on the material of ancient mythological texts of
«Poetic Edda». Usage of the modern scientific results allows to expose the image and origin of
the German gods.
